White Oak Veneer
White oak veneer across rift, quartered, and plain-sliced cuts, grades, and backers.
Plain-sliced white oak gives you the cathedral figure — the arched, flame-shaped grain that comes from slicing straight through the log. It is the most recognizable face in American architectural millwork and the most economical way to buy white oak, because it is the cut that yields best.
The trade against rift and quartered is variation. Plain slicing moves across the growth rings, so figure changes as the cut advances through the flitch and consecutive leaves differ more than they would in a quartered run. Book-matching handles that beautifully on a feature wall; on a long corridor where every panel must read the same, rift is usually the better specification.
We hold white oak in depth because it is what people ask for most. Flitches are hand-graded for color, figure and yield, and supplied in sequence so a run stays together. Raw, two-ply, paper-backed or pressed to panel, in any of our standard sheet sizes and cores.
