English Harewood Burl Veneer
Sycamore burl chemically treated to a silvery gray-green — the classic English harewood of fine cabinetmaking.

English Harewood is Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) that has been fumed or dyed to produce a silvery-grey to greenish-grey color. The burl form adds dense eye figure to this classic British decorative veneer. A centuries-old tradition in English cabinetmaking.
Harewood is not a species. It is English sycamore — Acer pseudoplatanus — chemically treated with iron salts, which react with the tannin in the wood and turn it a silvery gray with a green cast. The burl grade adds swirling eyes to that. It has been the quiet luxury of English cabinetmaking since the eighteenth century.
Because the color is a reaction rather than a stain, it depends on how much tannin the individual leaf happens to carry — so harewood varies from a pale silver to a deep gunmetal gray-green within a single lot, and that variation is the material working normally. It can also shift under strong UV over time.
The practical consequence: approve the actual leaves, and do not expect a re-order in a year to match what is already on the wall. Order the whole quantity together. Available paper-backed, two-ply, and pressed to panel.
