Rift White Oak Veneer
Straight, linear rift-cut white oak with a clean vertical grain — the default choice for contemporary architectural interiors.

Image exhibits Rift White Oak Veneer at its finest. Straight Grain and Homogenous Color with wide quarters and long lengths.
Rift white oak is quarter-sliced at an angle to the medullary rays, which is the whole point of it: cutting across the rays rather than along them suppresses the flake that quartered oak shows, and leaves a straight, tight, near-vertical grain that runs the length of the leaf. It is the most disciplined face white oak can give you, and it is the reason rift is specified on almost every contemporary architectural job that wants oak without the fleck.
It is also the most expensive way to cut a log, because a log yields comparatively little true rift. That is worth knowing before the drawing is issued. Rift is a low-yield cut, so the quantity you can pull from one flitch is limited, and a large elevation needs the whole run reserved at once rather than topped up later.
This is where grading stops being a formality. We grade the flare in quartered species and do not push the borderline fleck — meaning a leaf that is drifting out of true rift does not get sold to you as rift. Sequence is kept from a single flitch so a run holds its match across a whole wall, and we will tell you honestly if the quantity you need is more than the flitch will carry.
Available raw, two-ply for radius work, paper-backed, and pressed to architectural panels on MDF, particleboard or hardwood core in 4×8, 4×10 and 4×12, with 5-foot widths on request. Ask for a sample before you commit — it is a natural material and no photograph settles it.
